In article by Shahriar Shovon “How to Setup an FTP Server with ProFTPd on Ubuntu 18.04 LTS” paragraph “Generate SSL certificates for ProFTPd with the following command” I get error message:
ronnie@ronnie-ubuntu:~$ sudo systemctl restart proftpd
[sudo] password for ronnie:
ronnie@ronnie-ubuntu:~$ sudo chmod 600 /etc/ssl/private/proftpd.key
ronnie@ronnie-ubuntu:~$ sudo chmod 600 /etc/ssl/certs/proftpd.crt
chmod: cannot access ‘/etc/ssl/certs/proftpd.crt’: No such file or directory
Can you help?

  1. Hi Yancyd,

    You must install OpenSSL libraries with the following command:

    sudo apt install openssl -y

     

    Now, generate the OpenSSL certificates and keys with the following comamnd:

    sudo openssl req -x509 -newkey rsa:1024 -keyout /etc/ssl/private/proftpd.key
    -out /etc/ssl/certs/proftpd.crt -nodes -days 365

     

    Then, you should be able to restart the proftpd service without any problem.
